Over ten years ago, Reverend Breonus M. Mitchell, Sr. and a number of followers enliven by a divine inspiration, set out to build a church for the unchurched. On April 27, 1997, Greater Grace Temple Church was established. The first service was held that Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1112 Jefferson St. Pastor Mitchell preached the sermon “This Is Only a Test,” with his text being taken from II Corinthians 4:7-18. The Congregation will forever be appreciative for the generosity of Bishop Joseph Warren, III in providing us a place for our first worship. The next week, after meeting with the Original Church of God, the church moved and met for four years at 1803 County Hospital Road. For this, Bro. Thomas Shipp (deceased). In November 2001, the church moved its worship to Nashville School of the Arts. However, due to the distressing environmental conditions, the church moved back to the Original Church of God headquarters in November 2002.

The church held its first official worship and business meeting on June 22, 1997. The meeting was presided over by Bishop Michael Lee Graves, with the Temple Church serving as the organizing church. The constitution and name, Greater Grace Temple Church was adopted. Pastor Mitchell was affirmed as the founding pastor and the first officers of the church: Rev. Sylvester Van Springer, Vice-President; Danyelle Haley, Church Clerk; Raymond Springer, Treasurer; Haywood Springer, Chairmen of Trustees; and Karen Owens, Financial Secretary were confirmed. On October 3, 2001, because of the physical vision of Pastor Mitchell for the church, the church was renamed Greater Grace Temple Community Church. This cannot be amended in the constitution.

In April 2003, the church purchased 6 acres at 415 West Trinity for $100,000.00. This would be the site of the Grace Awakening Campus; a multi-purpose campus ministering to the needs of inner city youth and single families. The church has without question experienced its own wilderness experience. The church worshipped at the following locations: Original Church of God Headquarters 1803 County Hospital Road (May 1997 – October 2002); Nashville School of the Arts (November 2002 – November 2003); Original Church of God Headquarters 1803 County Hospital Road (November 2003 – May 2005); Hartman Park (June 2005); and the Maxwell House Hotel (July 2003 – August 2005). On Sunday, August 28, 2005 the church moved into its current location, 901 Dalebrook Lane, which was purchased for $500,000.00.

The vision still remains to begin construction on “The Grace Awakening Campus”. By God’s grace and His unmerited favor, we believe that our future looks even brighter.
